{"id":1229,"date":"2022-11-02T10:35:00","date_gmt":"2022-11-02T00:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/g8education.edu.au\/?p=1229"},"modified":"2024-11-01T09:54:49","modified_gmt":"2024-10-31T23:54:49","slug":"world-first-ramsr-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/g8education.edu.au\/news\/world-first-ramsr-program","title":{"rendered":"Thousands more Australian children to benefit from world-first program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hundreds of Early Childhood Teachers will have access to an evidence-based rhythm and movement program to support children\u2019s self-regulation thanks to a new partnership between early learning provider G8 Education, and QUT\u2019s world-first <a href=\"https:\/\/research.qut.edu.au\/ramsr\/\">RAMSR program<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation (RAMSR) program sees children perform complex, coordinated movements to specially developed music tracks to help support the development of their attentional and emotional skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cResearch has established musicians have more connected and efficient brains and that group music experiences contribute to social cohesion,\u201d said Associate Professor Kate Williams who developed the RAMSR program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur research showed greater teacher-reported self-regulation skills in the RAMSR children across the kindergarten year than those of the control groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSelf-regulation includes the important skills of regulating attention and emotion, working memory, ability to shift attention between information and tasks, impulse control and concentration which all affect learning and social development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new professional development partnership between G8 Education and RAMSR will see more than 600 Early Childhood Teachers from across Australia trained to deliver elements of the RAMSR program \u2013 enabling them to support thousands of children to improve their self-regulation in their learning environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe include some brain tricks to practise impulse control such as asking children to be still even when music is playing- the brain\u2019s \u2018air traffic control system\u2019 has to kick in to restrain the natural impulse to move,\u201d Assoc.
