G8 Education welcomes the unanimous commitment by Australia’s states and territories to establish a national register of Working With Children Checks.
Pejman Okhovat, CEO and Managing Director of G8 Education, welcomed the communique from Attorney-General Michelle Rowland and the Standing Council of Attorneys-General prioritising children’s safety and taking decisive and urgent action to strengthen protections.
“We welcome the proposed changes, including real-time sharing of criminal histories between jurisdictions and tougher eligibility criteria, that will help ensure individuals who don’t hold working with children credentials in one state or territory are banned nationwide,” said Mr Okhovat.
“G8 Education has strongly advocated for this vital reform, and we welcome the opportunity to work with the Federal Government and governments across Australia to support its implementation.”
“G8 Education supports all measures that enhance the safety and well-being of children in early learning environments and will continue to advocate for better protections for children, including further harmonisation of policies, regulations, systems and processes across governments and regulators.”
